Comment une aide-soignante Amika accompagne les personnes âgées dans la vie au quotidien ?

How does an Amika caregiver support elderly people in their daily lives?

Discover the specific role of a caregiver when an elderly person loses their independence

Activities of daily living

Amika Caregivers are beneficiary attendants, nursing students, or nursing assistants. They work or have worked in seniors' residences, CHSLDs, hospitals, and in home care for the elderly in the public and/or private sectors.

Their goal: to help people who are losing their independence choose to remain at home. Amika offers support in all daily activities from morning to evening and also at night.

In the morning, this involves transferring out of bed, showering (partial or complete hygiene), helping with meals, reminding people to take medication, and getting dressed.

Why accompany the elderly in the morning?

  • Improves self-confidence: Getting ready in the morning can give you a sense of control over your day, feeling more confident and ready to face the day's challenges
  • Start the day productively: Getting ready in the morning can help start the day on a positive and productive note, which can impact mood and motivation
  • Maintain a routine: By getting ready in the morning in a consistent manner, people with cognitive loss will feel more organized, less stressed and can therefore reduce anxiety.

Our daily activities support services can be implemented as needed by beneficiaries, such as grocery shopping and transportation to medical appointments.

Evening and night services also available

Amika caregivers can also assist with evening needs, such as dinnertime and/or bedtime. We know that some of our clients appreciate hygiene services in the evening to promote relaxation and unwind the body and mind, which can make it easier to fall asleep.

Individual preferences and habits are discussed during the needs assessment with the Amika team. Some people prefer to shower in the morning rather than in the evening. The key is to find what works best for the person being cared for and to maintain good personal hygiene.

In cases where the patient requires constant presence, overnight services can be arranged through our caregivers. The caregiver remains awake and is available to meet all of the patient's needs during the night (bathroom assistance, supervision, and assistance with transfers).

Specialists in cognitive stimulation

Our caregivers are also specialists in cognitive stimulation who can help prevent or slow down cognitive loss.

Through a series of fun and educational activities (board games, crosswords, etc.), entertainment activities (reading, TV, etc.), friendly discussions on various topics and carrying out activities specifically dedicated to beneficiaries with cognitive problems, they can help maintain cognitive health and prevent dementia.

It is important to note that cognitive health activities can be tailored to each person's abilities and interests.
